The Economist's cover

Speak it not

Throughout this conflict, the great unmentionable, not just for the Thai press but also for most foreign reporters, has been the role of King Bhumibol, his family and their closest courtiers.

i’m rather surprised to see my country’s story put up in the front page of the copy this week. and here it comes again this tabooed issue…  as a Thai i’m really glad The Economist splash the limelight to this topic because i dont think this topic will ever be discussed in Thai Language. actually i want to put some comments but it would be really long and i’m feeling a bit tired after watching series and reading two articles.. so i will just put the links and some quotes here

The Economist: the king and them

The Economist: a right royal mess

There was talk in Bangkok of the princess’s funeral being a “dress rehearsal” for the end of Bhumibol’s reign, 62 years long so far.

“When we say ‘Long live the king’ we really mean it, because we can’t bear to think of what the next step will be,” he says.

Princess Sirindhorn is preferred…

â€Ķto the stiff crown prince

dont forget to observe comments. there are loads of comments you should notice.

i couldnt manage to load this link but many people recommened it.. i’ll give it a try.

i really wish thai politics to move forward to brighter path

yesterday there was a cute phenomenon on Thailand’s sky. i heard people called it ‘Earth Shy’ but the science behind this beauty is that the probe of the Jupiter (on the left of the pic) and the Venus (on the right of the pic) coincide with the lunar smile. with this hot pressure on political issue, the smiley moon gave us a break and cheerful mood. some soothe sayers said it’s a bad luck but i dont think so. today the constitutional court ceased those political parties and i think it’s a good start for the new chapter… well i hope it’s a new story rather than a new chapter of the continual misery novel.

it’s been a long time that i’ve thought why only small amount of students go for PAD while the rest rather stay safe at the house. i’m one of the latter and here i’m ready to post my comments.

ridiculously, my little sister was singing dbsk’s Balloon song with a headset over her head while the Prime Minister had a speech last night - yeah, the speech that stole my good time while i was watching Jairao (āđƒāļˆāļĢāđ‰āļēāļ§-cracking heart, current addictive lakorn). He tried to communicate but spend more than ten minutes to say that the airports will be put in emergency zone, and he pushed all the responsibility to other guys in Bangkok accusing that he is now in Chiang Mai =_= although he tried to make it to be more like a delegation of work but the tone did clearly show his point. to be honest, i dont want to watch it but he’s everywhere in every channel… and all i did was half-watching and ate some fruits while waiting for my Jairao to come back. well did i mention i’m here to explain the reason why students are inert?

1. basically students are educated. they know that the PAD had gone over the line. in TU 110 class Dr.Richard taught me how’s Ahingsa (the civil disobedience) is actually is. compared to PAD, Mahadhama Gandhi is much more like a hero besides he is reasonable. PAD lose their rational and rather use emotional reason to induce people. I agree with PAD to some extent but the disagree part outweigh it that’s why i visit there as a temple fare.

2. as well as many thai youths, me and my sisters rather spend our times joyfully. watching dramas, listening to musics, chatting and doing other interesting activities are much more wise in our eyes. politics are so boring and teens alienate themselves from it.

3. university students, particularly Thammasat, are the target expected to be activing. because students from the same fence long ago, 30 years ago, was very active against the government and it became a symbol of people’s power. but the grounds of the story are different. and many couple who had bad experienced with what happened 30 years ago may not allow their kids to go out. surely they afraid the history will repeat itself and they will lose their beloved sons or daughters. even some parents agree with PAD, though mostly they agree just partially, encourage students to go, with no friends coming along…it would turn out that they dont go or go as a family. moreover, Thammasat moved majority of students to Rangsit campus and it takes very long time to travel to the inner core area. so even someone agree with PAD the cost of travelling may turn them down to a normal supporter listening to PAD fm. some students who do not agree with PAD and they’re get mad when the Dhammajak symbol of the university was put next to PAD’s sign. whatever case PAD failed to pull a large chunk of Thammasat Students to the rally.

4. i think i’ve more to add but cant remember what, so i’ll leave this list open.

deeply sorry for those who have to spend many nights in the airport. please think that it’s a good time to experience what tom hank played in the movie Terminal. thai people are kind and very supportive, just that they’re too much in love with the nation and they’re credulous.
